Solid Oak Coffee Table
Solid Oak Coffee Tables
Solid oak coffee tables provide a focal point in living rooms, having both practical and decorative uses. They are usually placed in front of a sofa and used to hold drinks, books (including the eponymous coffee table book) and, more recently, remote controls.
Oak is a comparatively slow growing, very strong and hard hardwood. The grain patterns in the wood are attractive, and oak is popular in furniture due to both its strength and appearance. So-called oak furniture is frequently not solid oak, but instead an oak veneer, which is a very thin slice of oak glued onto a cheaper wood frame, although the frame may still be a hardwood. This gives the appearance of oak without the actual strength of the wood, and is usually done as a cheaper option. Care needs to be taken that what seems to be a solid oak coffee table is solid oak, and doesn't just have the appearance of it.
